Thank you so much for visiting Play The Poet, and for coming to this page to learn about me.
I’ve been writing poems for friends and family since I was a teenager, but only in later years did I have the self-belief to enter competitions, share my pieces with the world on my blog, and even perform poems live.
The time has come now for me to share my love for the craft in a new way – by writing it for you. And, in true poetry spirit, here’s a bit about me:
ABOUT THE POET
I started like any young writer, I guess,
with prose scribbled into a maths book, no less
I’d read ‘till I snored and I’d rhyme when I could
– just as any young writer or laureate would
When birthdays arrived I’d think up a verse,
(being sure to sit down before school to rehearse)
then, as I grew older, my words became stronger
I began to write poems much deeper and longer
I picked up techniques, I won competitions
felt giddy with pride as I sent off submissions
my teachers encouraged me – made me feel smart –
so I kept it all going, and called it an ‘art’.
So now I have come to this stage in my quest
of doing much more of what I do best. See,
while some think it’s old-school, and not worth the time
I can’t think of much that is better than rhyme.
